Is Spotify Stats safe?

Spotify shows you every permission before you connect. Most of them only read your listening data. A few let you save playlists, like tracks, and control playback from this site, and they only act when you click to do that. Spotify Stats never changes your account on its own.

Permissions we request

Read your data

user-read-email
Reads the email address on your Spotify account so we can create and identify your Spotify Stats account.
user-read-private
Reads basic account details such as your display name, country, and whether you have Premium, which Spotify requires for playback features.
user-top-read
Reads your top artists and tracks for the last 4 weeks, 6 months, and 12 months. This powers your stats page.
user-read-recently-played
Reads the tracks you played most recently, shown on the recently played page.
user-read-currently-playing
Reads the track you are listening to right now, for now-playing features.
user-read-playback-state
Reads which device is playing and whether playback is paused, so games know where to play a song.

Act only when you click

user-modify-playback-state
Lets you play, pause, or skip a song from a game on this site. It only acts when you press a play control.
playlist-modify-public
Lets you save your top tracks as a public playlist. A playlist is only created when you click to save one.
playlist-modify-private
Lets you save your top tracks as a private playlist. A playlist is only created when you click to save one.
user-library-modify
Lets you like a track from this site so it is added to your Liked Songs. It only acts when you click like.

What we store and how to remove it

  • Your Spotify account id, display name, and email, plus the OAuth access and refresh tokens needed to fetch your stats.
  • Your top artists and top tracks, with their rank position and time range, so repeat visits load faster.
  • You can delete your account and all stored data at any time. Connect with Spotify, open your profile page, and choose Delete account.
  • You can also remove Spotify Stats' access to your Spotify account at any time from Spotify's Manage apps page.
  • Read the full Privacy Policy.

Frequently asked questions

Is Spotify Stats safe?
Yes. When you connect, Spotify shows every permission we ask for. 6 of them only read data (user-read-email, user-read-private, user-top-read, user-read-recently-played, user-read-currently-playing, user-read-playback-state), which is what builds your stats. The other 4 (user-modify-playback-state, playlist-modify-public, playlist-modify-private, user-library-modify) allow saving your stats as a playlist, liking tracks, and controlling playback in games. Spotify Stats never changes your playlists, Liked Songs, or playback unless you click to do it. You can delete your account and stored data from your profile page at any time, and remove access in your Spotify account settings.
How is this different from Spotify Wrapped?
Spotify Wrapped is a once-a-year summary. Spotify Stats shows the same kind of top tracks, top artists, and top genres at any time of year, plus recently played, across three time ranges: last 4 weeks, last 6 months, and last 12 months.
How is this different from stats.fm (Spotistats)?
stats.fm is a separate app. Spotify Stats is a free, web-based tool: there is nothing to install. It shows your top tracks, top artists, top genres, and recently played for the three ranges listed above as soon as you connect with Spotify.
Can I see all-time stats?
Spotify's API does not expose a true all-time range. Its longest available range is roughly the last 12 months, which is the Last 12 months view on this site.
How often do the stats update?
Your personal stats are fetched live from Spotify when you open the stats page. The public Spotify artist charts are crawled once a day at 00:00 UTC and cached for up to an hour.
